Sun Sea Sky Productions – Podcast Presentation – Radio Q37

Sun Sea Sky Productions (or, simply referred to by some as ‘Sun Sea Sky’) is an independent music label that is currently based in Charleston, Illinois. The label was founded in 1999 with the expressed purpose of releasing original and quality recordings from a host of artists and genres worldwide. The startup began documenting noteworthy music in similar fashion to like-minded luminaries of its time, the majority of which are sadly no longer in existence (Polyvinyl, Caulfield, Crank!, Ohio Gold, Slowdime, Divot, 54º 40’ or Fight, Art Monk Construction, Lovitt, File 13, My Pal God et al.).

Since its inception, Sun Sea Sky Productions has and continues to release fresh innovative music in hopes of advancing an often discreet, yet all-important independent music scene. The label’s back catalog boasts a multitude of recordings from talented artists including Ampline, Athalia, Aurore Rien, Braving The Seabed, Jai Alai, Lewis & Clarke, Lights Out Asia, Loomis, Midsummer, Neighborly, Pound WI, Proudentall, Sentient, Sunday Flood, The Storied Northwest, The Boy Who Spoke Clouds, The String and Return and more.

Influences are seemingly redundant to cite this day and age, but as a reference point the label has learned much being raised in an environment which fostered the growth and development of acts like Rachel’s, Seam, Juno, Castor, C-Clamp, Red Stars Theory, Giants Chair, Vitreous Humor, Knapsack, Mineral, Boys Life, Boilermaker, Hurl, Christie Front Drive, Seven Storey Mountain, Aloha and countless others. All good music is emotional – from 70’s Genesis to Autechre to Jawbox – with the label’s output being no different.

Over the years Sun Sea Sky Productions has had the rare privilege and good fortune of working with a wide range of talent, that today has grown to encompass more contemporary acts such as Boc Scadet, Boy Is Fiction, Melorman, Mike Allen, Northcape, Seestrings, and Signal Hill. We trust that you are enjoying the releases, humbly thank you for your support, and with any amount of luck will outlive our predecessors.
